Urologix, Inc. Appoints Vice President of Urologix, Europe

Hires General Manager with Extensive European Medical Device Experience

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Urologix, Inc. (Nasdaq: ULGX), a
rapidly emerging developer and marketer of minimally invasive medical products
for the treatment of urological disorders, today announced the appointment of
Rob ten Hoedt as the company's vice president of Urologix, Europe effective
January 1, 1998.
ten Hoedt fills a newly developed position at Urologix, where he will
direct the company's commercial sales efforts in Europe through the company's
partner, Boston Scientific Corporation. He is opening the Urologix, Europe
branch office in January in Maastricht, The Netherlands.
"Rob has amassed valuable experience over the past seven years introducing
a highly sophisticated technology concept into a very skeptical European
market, a challenge that we face at this point," said Urologix president and
chief executive officer Jack Meyer. "However, we believe the benefits of
Urologix's Targis(TM) System in treating men afflicted with Benign Prostatic
Hyperplasia (BPH) and the health care cost advantages are becoming
increasingly recognized in the European market. Rob's presence there will
help sustain the marketing momentum Urologix and Boston Scientific have
together developed," Meyer added.
Before joining Urologix, ten Hoedt was the worldwide business director and
general manager responsible for the development and successful
commercialization of products to treat urinary incontinence for Medtronic's
Interstim division. He had been with that company for six years. ten Hoedt's
professional background includes successful sales and management experience at
companies in the medical device industry.
"BPH represents a huge market throughout the world," said ten Hoedt. "I
am impressed with the Targis System therapeutic results. The benefits are
clearly proven through a well conducted clinical trial. This combined with
the key opinion leaders that Urologix has associated themselves with and the
recent progress in reimbursement in the United States and Germany provides us
with an excellent platform to build from," added ten Hoedt.
Certain statements in this press release that relate to future performance
of the company are "forward-looking" and are subject to risks and
uncertainties inherent in the company's business. These risks and
uncertainties include: competition from other BPH treatments; the ability of
the company's distributors and representatives to successfully market and sell
the Targis System; the company's ability to manufacture the Targis Systems in
sufficient quantities; the company's ability to maintain intellectual property
protection for its proprietary products and to defend its existing
intellectual property rights from challenges by third parties; and the extent
to which the physicians performing the Targis System procedures are able to
obtain third-party reimbursement. In addition, a detailed discussion of risks
and uncertainties may be found in the Risk Factors section of the company's
Prospectus dated November 12, 1997.
Urologix, Inc., based in Minneapolis, develops, manufactures and markets
minimally invasive medical devices for the treatment of urological diseases.
The company has developed the Targis System, a non-surgical, anesthesia-free,
catheter-based therapy that uses a proprietary microwave technology for the
treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a disease that affects over
23 million men worldwide. The Targis System has been approved for marketing
in the United States, the European Union, Japan and Canada.
