Solectron Global Services Establishes Dedicated After-Sales Service Facility In Japan

                     Company Acquires MCC-Sequel Limited

    TOKYO and MILPITAS, Calif., Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Solectron Corporation
(NYSE: SLR), the world's leading provider of electronics manufacturing and
supply-chain management services, said today that its Global Services business
unit has established a dedicated after-sales service facility in Japan through
the acquisition of MCC-Sequel Limited, a leading provider of repair, recycling
and manufacturing services for electronics products.  Solectron Global
Services previously owned 19 percent of the company, and purchased the
remaining shares from JAFCO and Memorex-Telex Japan Ltd.

    As a result of the transaction, Solectron Global Services now provides
repair, recycling and manufacturing services in Japan, including:  new product
screening, toner cartridge recycling, magnetic storage cartridge manufacturing
and assembly, and repair and call center services for computing, networking,
wireless and telecommunications products.  Financial terms of the deal were
not disclosed.
    Solectron Global Services will assume full responsibility for MCC-Sequel's
corporate headquarters in Tokyo and plant operations in Koriyama, Japan.  In
addition, MCC-Sequel will be integrated into Solectron Global Services'
worldwide network of locations providing same-day and next-day repair for
complex computer and electronics systems.  Customers currently served in Japan
include Cisco Systems, Compaq Computer Corporation and IBM.
