MELVILLE, N.Y., Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ --
Andrea Electronics Corporation (Amex: AND) announced today that International
Business Machines Corporation (NYSE: IBM), has selected Andrea Electronics to
supply the IBM UltraPort Digital Array Microphone, an option available for use
with IBM's award-winning ThinkPad line of notebook computers. An innovative
IBM UltraPort connector enhances and expands the usability and functionality
of the ThinkPad(R) T, A "p" model, and X Series notebooks. Conveniently
located on the top edge of the notebook screen display, this unique port
enables the use of several IBM USB peripheral products including the IBM
UltraPort Digital Array Microphone.
"Andrea's customized digital microphone technologies with speech enhancing
software allows us to provide consumers with solutions that make it easier for
people to interact with their PCs -- enabling a natural language interface,"
said Rob Pace, product manager, mobile and consumer options, IBM. "Andrea
continues to work to make voice recognition a reality."
"IBM continues to lead the way in voice recognition solutions, and we are
proud that they have selected Andrea as the audio input system provider for
this truly unique product," said Douglas J. Andrea, Co-Chairman and Co-Chief
Executive Officer of Andrea Electronics Corporation. "We believe our years of
research and development in the areas of microphone acoustics and speech
enhancing software has enabled us to now create cutting edge audio input
solutions."
The IBM UltraPort Digital Array Microphone, designed specifically for
IBM's innovative UltraPort connector, incorporates Andrea's patented Digital
Super Directional Array 2.0 (DSDA(R)) and patent-pending PureAudio(TM) 2.0
noise cancelling software algorithms to enhance speech-enabled applications in
mobile, as well as home and office environments. The microphone comes with an
UltraPort/USB converter, USB cable and tripod to facilitate using them on
selected ThinkPad or NetVista systems with a functional USB port.
By utilizing the accompanying accessory kit, and IBM's ViaVoice(R) voice
recognition software which is included with the microphone, the user of a
compatible ThinkPad or NetVista is able to interact untethered, headset-free,
navigating through Windows, dictating text and recording wave files. ViaVoice
allows users to create documents, e-mail and instant messages simply and
quickly with spoken commands. The software recognizes 150,000 English words
from the first use and can add up to 64,000 words. ViaVoice can additionally
spell and pronounce the 260,000 words in the back-up dictionary.
