INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Light Helicopter Turbine Engine
Company (LHTEC) today announced that it has delivered the first production
CTS800-4N engine to Westland Helicopters Limited. The engine will be
installed in Westland's new Super Lynx 300 helicopter and is the first of
fourteen T800 engines to be delivered to Westland this year. Westland
forecasts sales of more than 40 Super Lynx helicopters in the coming months.
"The CTS800-4N has been flying in the Super Lynx prototype for more than
two months and has performed flawlessly," said Mike Bush, President, LHTEC.
"This is a significant milestone in our development, since we can now
demonstrate CTS800-4N inherent value in real operational environments while
focusing our attention on providing our customers world-class product
support."
The CTS800-4N engine is a variant of the T800-LHT-802 Comanche engine,
with the addition of a reduction gearbox to decrease output RPM from 23,000 to
6,000 for operation in the Lynx helicopter. It has a take-off rating of 1360
horsepower, as compared to 1550 horsepower for the Comanche. The CTS800-4N
shares 60% commonality with the Comanche and retains all of its features to
include modularity, electronic controls, high reliability, low fuel
consumption and ease of maintenance.
The LHTEC T800 family of engines has undergone more than 26,000 engine
test hours, including over 3,200 aircraft flight hours in numerous helicopter
applications demonstrating the engine's state-of-the-art technologies.
LHTEC is a 50/50 partnership between Honeywell Engines & Systems and
Rolls-Royce Corporation.
