C.A.R.'s Housing Affordability Fund Hits $750,000 Mark; REALTORS(R)' Fund Helping Solve California's Housing-Affordability Crisis

    LOS ANGELES, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The California Association of
REALTORS(R) (C.A.R.) today announced that its Housing Affordability Fund
(C.A.R.H.A.F.) has raised more than $750,000 toward its 2003 goal of
$1 million.  Since the fund's inception, 25 local REALTOR(R) associations
throughout the state have contributed $161,000, with the balance coming from
more than 500 individual donors and C.A.R.'s initial $500,000 donation to the
fund.
    The fund's resources are being distributed through local REALTOR(R)
associations that have submitted requests for programs that directly address
housing affordability and housing supply issues within their communities.  The
Housing Affordability Fund recently disbursed its first grant of $26,000 to
the Monterey County Housing Alliance Housing Opportunity Center for a
counseling and education program that will expand mortgage credit
opportunities and increase homeownership in the Monterey County area.
    "We're pleased that REALTORS(R) and local associations throughout
California have so generously donated to the C.A.R. Housing Affordability
Fund," said C.A.R. President Toby Bradley.
    "The ability to find, qualify for and purchase a home in 21st-century
California is a challenge for many residents," she said.  "The C.A.R. Housing
Affordability Fund is committed to raising $20 million over a five-year period
to help make the American Dream of homeownership a reality for more families
in California."
