Integrates Office and Wireless Voice Communications
Into Single, Mobile Handset
PHOENIX, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- AG Communication Systems, a subsidiary
of Lucent Technologies, and AT&T Wireless Services (ATTWS) today announced the
general availability of the ROAMEO(R) TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access)
850- and 1900-MHz-based digital wireless office phone system, as part of a
joint marketing agreement finalized last year between the two companies.
Under the agreement, the companies will jointly market ROAMEO as part of
the next generation of AT&T Wireless Office Service (WOS). This service
integrates the mobility of wireless communications with the functionality of a
company's existing office telephone system and will be marketed under the
brand name of AT&T Wireless Office Service in the United States. AG
Communication Systems will provide equipment for WOS under the ROAMEO label.
The new ROAMEO system includes a network of base stations that provides
in-building or on-campus wireless coverage. The system's hardware and
software integrates these wireless capabilities with Private Branch Exchange
(PBX), Centrex, or key systems -- and provides a link to the AT&T wireless
network. The system offers new call routing capabilities and added benefits
to the WOS customer and the wireless carrier.
With ROAMEO, WOS enables users to make and receive calls and access
critical features of their private system when using a wireless phone as well
as their desk phone. This includes call-forwarding, call-transfer, and 4- or
5-digit dialing. Wireless Office Service subscribers can use their office
number as their 'one number' and be assured incoming calls will reach them
whether they're in or out of the office.
"We are pleased to be a partner with AT&T Wireless Services in offering
leading-edge TDMA-based equipment that will allow ATTWS to incorporate its
latest digital features into AT&T Wireless Office Service," noted Charles
Schulz, vice president and general manager of wireless products for AG
Communication Systems. "The ROAMEO system technology can seamlessly integrate
wireless and wireline communications, and with 850- as well as 1900-MHz
technology, AT&T Wireless can offer more of its customers anytime, anywhere
communication."
Michael Radovich, Director, Wireless Office Service at AT&T, said the
agreement between AT&T Wireless and AG Communication Systems provides an
important step toward meeting the exploding demand for Wireless Office
Service.
"We'll be working together with AG Communication Systems to bring this
highly effective wireless communication tool to businesses and other
organizations," said Radovich.
Wireless Office Service users benefit from the advanced features of their
wireless phones -- in building, on campus or across the nationwide wireless
network. In the case of AT&T this includes Caller ID, extended battery life,
text messaging and voice mail, both with message-waiting indicator. And since
AT&T offers the largest digital wireless network in North America, customers
can access their advanced features in more cities than with any other service
provider.
