Solectron Completes Acquisition of Iphotonics

 Acquisition Strengthens Solectron's Optical Design, Prototyping, Full-Scale
                    Manufacturing and Testing Capabilities

    MILPITAS, Calif., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Solectron Corporation
(NYSE: SLR), the world's leading provider of electronics manufacturing and
supply-chain management services, said today that it has completed its
acquisition of Iphotonics, Inc., a leading provider of core optical
manufacturing services.  The acquisition significantly increases Solectron's
optical services capabilities, and enhances its total systems-solutions
offering.  Financial terms were not disclosed.

    As a result of the transaction, Solectron gained all of Iphotonics'
advanced optical subsystem manufacturing, fiber handling, splicing, packaging,
termination and connectorization services, as well as significant optical
engineering and design expertise.  The company also assumed Iphotonics'
proprietary test and measurement systems designed for high volume optical
module and subsystem manufacturing.
    In addition, Solectron acquired Iphotonics' design, prototyping and
manufacturing facility in Glen Burnie, Md., and an engineering and development
center in Fremont, Calif.  Solectron will integrate Iphotonics into its
existing optical technology unit.  Susan Trumbule, chief executive officer of
Iphotonics, joins Solectron as the vice president and general manager of
Solectron's optical technology unit.  Iphotonics' management team, with more
than 60 years of combined optical experience, also joins Solectron.
    Solectron's current optical technology services span the entire product
life cycle, including:  design, test development and execution, new product
introduction, component engineering, module manufacturing and installation,
splicing and fiber management, board-level assembly, systems integration,
field installation, and end-of-life warranty and repair work.  Solectron has
more than 15 years of experience in optical technology and continues to build
capabilities through its eight optical centers worldwide.
