Cardiovascular Diagnostics Announces Management Additions

    RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Cardiovascular Diagnostics, Inc.
(Nasdaq: CVDI) announced today that Dick Timmons, (52), has joined the Company
as Vice President of Manufacturing and Peter Scott, (48), has joined the
Company as Vice President of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs.
As Vice President of Manufacturing, Mr. Timmons will be responsible for
production and operations. Mr. Timmons brings 21 years of diagnostic
manufacturing and operations experience to the CVDI team. Prior to joining
the Company, Mr. Timmons spent nine years with Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ)
-- most recently serving as Director of Operations for Johnson & Johnson's
Direct Access Diagnostics Division. Prior to that, Mr. Timmons spent 12 years
with Abbott Laboratories (NYSE: ABT) in operations and engineering.
Mr. Scott brings 26 years of experience in regulatory affairs and quality
assurance to CVDI. His distinguished career includes positions as Director of
Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs at Gaymar Industries, Inc. and
Electromedical Systems. Mr. Scott has also held Quality Assurance positions
at C.R. Bard (NYSE: BCR), the Clay Adams Division of Becton Dickenson
(NYSE: BDX) and J.T. Baker Diagnostics.
Commenting on these latest additions to CVDI's management team, John
Funkhouser, President and Chief Executive Officer stated, "The healthcare
community is continuing to accept near-patient, or point-of-care testing to
improve patient outcomes, such as that provided by CVDI's Thrombolytic
Assessment System (TAS(TM)). With that in mind, and as CVDI moves closer to
commercialization of the TAS, we recognize the need to add depth to our
management team in order to augment our ability to fulfill integrated health
network ("IHN") contracts which have already been awarded, as well as those
which are pending.
"For example, Dade International, CVDI's principal North American
distributor for routine coagulation tests, recently signed a hemostasis
contract with Premier, a health care alliance with 1,800 member organizations.
As such, we expect increased sales volumes and demand for the TAS beginning in
1998. We are therefore delighted to welcome both Dick and Peter to the CVDI
family. Clearly, their extensive experience in the medical device industry
will be invaluable to the Company as we begin to ramp up our efforts going
forward." Mr. Funkhouser further stated that CVDI is committed to adding
additional personnel in the future to help insure the Company's goal of
becoming the gold standard in point-of-care coagulation testing.
Cardiovascular Diagnostics, Inc. develops, manufactures and markets
systems designed to deliver rapidly and accurately, blood test results at the
point-of-care ("POC"). CVDI's novel technology platform has allowed the
Company to develop a menu of diagnostic tests, including new specialty tests.
The Company believes that its Thrombolytic Assessment System ("TAS")
technology is the only POC system capable of monitoring both the formation and
dissolution of blood clots -- a critical factor in treating heart attacks,
strokes and a variety of other medical conditions.
