AG Communication Systems Integrates with Lucent's 7R/E Packet Driver To Connect Voice and Data Networks

PHOENIX, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- AG Communication Systems, a subsidiary of
Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU), today announced the availability of an
innovative voice-data convergence product that enables the company's GTD-5
central office switch to bridge the gap between the circuit-switched network
and the packet-switched network. Developed by Lucent Technologies, the
7R/E(TM) Packet Driver allows voice and data traffic that would have traveled
over the circuit-switched network to be carried over packet networks.
"The 7R/E Packet Driver prepares the GTD-5 for the packet generation. It
is ideal for service providers who want to minimize voice-data convergence
costs and protect their investment in circuit switching while gradually
evolving their networks for the future," said Ken Arndt, vice president of
marketing for AG Communication Systems. "The solution relieves network
congestion and simplifies network management, using carriers' existing circuit
switching infrastructure."
The 7R/E Packet Driver alleviates congestion caused by the explosion in
data traffic by migrating Internet and other data traffic from the traditional
circuit-switched network to a packet network, reducing transport costs. It
offers simplified network management by integrating operations,
administration, maintenance and provisioning (OAM&P). Service providers use a
single interface to control multiple network services under a common framework
using common tools to simplify tasks. It extends the GTD-5's ability to
effectively integrate circuit and packet capabilities, protecting customers'
investment in their existing switching systems.
The 7R/E Packet Driver gives service providers an evolution path to packet
networks by enabling the GTD-5 to support state-of-the-art applications such
as network-based modem pooling, voice over packet (ATM and IP), trunking for
voice and data, high-speed IP routing, traditional PSTN incoming interfaces
and outbound data interfaces, synchronous to asynchronous conversion,
aggregation of multiple data streams on broadband pipes, xDSL and multimedia
services.
