PHOENIX, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- AG Communication Systems, subsidiary of
Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU), and e-tel corporation, designer and
manufacturer of open standards voice-over-Internet-protocol (VoIP) telephones,
announced today that they have demonstrated interoperability between Lucent's
iMerge(TM) Centrex Feature Gateway (CFG) and e-tel's FreeRide IP phone. In
addition, the companies agreed to jointly market solutions for the Internet
telephony marketplace by offering customers a complementary VoIP solution in
Centrex environments.
The iMerge CFG is part of Lucent Technologies' 7R/E(TM) IP Business
Services, an IP Centrex solution that helps service providers capture new
revenue by offering business customers hosted, IP-calling services that are
more flexible and cost-effective than those offered by both traditional and IP
PBX offerings. The iMerge CFG -- which works with any class 5 switch --
serves as a bridge between circuit-switched networks and IP network
infrastructures, delivering the features and functionality of that class 5
switch on the packet network.
"The iMerge CFG uses a standards-compliant interface to one of the world's
most complete set of VoIP endpoints, allowing a superior variety of end-user
applications, including multilocation Centrex and virtual office capabilities
for road warriors, teleworkers and call center agents," said Ken Arndt, vice
president of marketing at AG Communication Systems.
"Our FreeRide IP phone complements the value-added services provided by
the iMerge CFG platform," said Matt Lukens, president and CEO of e-tel
corporation. "Together, we can deliver the revenue-generating applications
that help service providers and enterprise customers maximize the potential of
their networks."
e-tel corporation is a leading developer and manufacturer of
standards-compliant voice-over-IP phones and low-density gateways. e-tel is a
privately held venture-capital financed company based in West Warwick, R.I.
