Huntington Establishes Fund To Help Tornado Victims

PORT CLINTON, Ohio, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Huntington National
Bank's Port Clinton Office has set up a Tornado Relief Fund to help those
people hit hard by Sunday's devastating tornados. Huntington is contributing
$500 to get the fund started. The fund is being established through The
Salvation Army's Port Clinton Service Unit. "We are the bank of The Salvation
Army in this area and we asked how we could help them most," said Sandy
Bogard, Banking Office Manager for Huntington's main office located at 120
Madison Street in Port Clinton. "We are a tight knit community and we step up
and help when our neighbors need us. There is a lot of devastation out there
today," Bogard continued.
Huntington's Port Clinton offices are also being designated as drop off
sites for canned goods, flashlights & batteries. The bank's offices at 3805
East Harbor Road and the Madison Street location will accept items through
November 23. The Salvation Army will distribute all collected goods and will
administer the fund.
According to Stephanie Lowe, The Salvation Army's Port Clinton Service
Human Services Director: 33 homes were destroyed, 30 more were severely
damaged, and an additional 69 homes sustained minor damages as a result of
this devastating act of nature in Port Clinton. All hotels in the Port Clinton
area are booked to capacity due to significant property damage and
destruction. Power will be out for much of the area for as long as three or
four days according to Lowe. "People will need long term assistance. Anyone
who is affected by this tragedy is eligible to receive assistance," Lowe
stated.
Individuals or groups who are interested in donating to the Tornado Relief
Fund can contact either Cheryl Wieber, Personal Banker at Huntington's East
Harbor Road Office at (419) 734-5554, or Sandy Bogard at (419) 734-2157, or
stop by either location.
