HORSHAM, Pa., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- GMAC Mortgage Corporation announced
the appointment of Ben Smith to the new position of Executive Vice President,
Sales and Marketing.  Mr. Smith comes to the company from American Express
Financial Advisors -- where he most recently served as a Vice President for
Workplace Marketing and Financial Education Services.
    In his new position, Smith will oversee all of the distribution channels
for the company's growing product offerings for first mortgages and home
equity loans.  Smith will also help the company enhance their cross sell and
retention initiatives.

mortgage banker," says Mike O'Brien, GMAC Mortgage president.  "Ben's
background and professional experience in delivering financial planning
services will greatly assist us in delivering a variety of products from

    Smith has a diverse background.  He earned his B.A. from Washington and
Lee University where he studied German, Russian and Accounting.  He went on to
earn his Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee Law School.  He followed with
three Master of Science degrees in Financial Services, Management and
Financial Planning.
    Smith is a Chartered Life Underwriter, a Chartered Financial Consultant, a
Certified Financial Planner and a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist.  He
is a member of the Virginia Bar and the Real Estate, Probate and Business
Committees of the American Bar Association.
    At American Express Financial Advisors, Smith developed workplace business
including financial education services, charitable gift planning, strategic
alliances and affinity programs.  He is a frequent speaker at national trade
conferences across the U.S. on financial services and personal finance.
    Smith will relocate from Minneapolis to GMAC Mortgage headquarters in
suburban Philadelphia.
