Crown Central Petroleum Corporation Announces Receipt of Waiver From EPA

BALTIMORE, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Crown Central Petroleum Corporation
announced today that the Environmental Protection Agency has recently agreed
to extend temporary relief from the Agency's Tier 2 gasoline sulfur reduction
regulations to the refineries operated by Crown and its La Gloria Oil & Gas
Company subsidiary. Crown's gasoline sulfur levels have historically been
lower than that of most other refiners, and the refineries are already able to
meet the sulfur cap limits of 2004 and 2005. Under the terms of the
agreement, the gasoline sulfur reduction schedule has been extended until 2008
at Crown's Pasadena, Texas refinery and 2010 at La Gloria's Tyler, Texas
refinery. This relief is similar to that afforded to small refiners.
The Company also reported that it has committed to the early reduction of
diesel sulfur at the Tyler refinery. Production of ultra-low sulfur diesel at
Tyler will begin in 2005 in support of the state program to benefit vehicle
emissions in East Texas. This is over one year ahead of the schedule otherwise
required by the federal diesel sulfur reduction program.
Crown is a refiner and marketer of petroleum products headquartered in
Baltimore, Maryland.
