Netscape Issues Statement on Court Order Regarding Microsoft Consent Decree

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Netscape Communications
Corporation (Nasdaq: NSCP) issued the following statement on the Court Order
regarding the Consent Decree against Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: MSFT):

Judge Jackson has granted a preliminary injunction against Microsoft,
saying Microsoft "shall cease and desist" from the practice of requiring
customers and OEMs to accept Internet Explorer as a condition of accepting the
Windows operating system. The company believes this order is an important
step in providing a level playing field that allows customer choice. Netscape
expects this order to stimulate a new round of competition in the industry,
enabling software companies to compete for OEM business as existing OEM
contracts expire in coming months.
"Netscape is gratified that the government has taken this action and that
the court agrees with the importance of keeping the marketplace competitive
and open," said Roberta Katz, Netscape's senior vice president and general
counsel. "This is a victory for consumers, because it helps to ensure
customer choice."
