Chrysler Donates $2 Million To Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chrysler Corporation
Fund announced today it will donate a total of $2 million to the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra Hall (DSOH) as part of the Corporation's commitment to
enhancing the cultural renaissance of the City of Detroit.
Half of the $2 million grant will go toward the DSOH's Orchestra Place
development project, a historic alliance between the DSO, Detroit Public
Schools and the Detroit Medical Center. Chrysler's contribution is the first
corporate gift to Orchestra Place.
The second million dollars goes to the DSOH Operating Campaign for
operating and program support.
The announcement was made by Chrysler Corporation Chairman and CEO Robert
Eaton, speaking at tonight's Opening Night of the DSOH, which features world-
renowned violinist, Midori.
"Detroit is where our heart is. We have manufacturing facilities in this
city. We are investing in the city. We believe in the city and the
institutions that make it great -- including institutions like the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra," said Eaton. "This $2 million grant by the Chrysler Fund
continues the Corporation's commitment to the greater Detroit community and
the revitalization of the cultural arts. We believe organizations like the
DSOH enhance the quality of life for everyone -- not just in Detroit but
throughout Michigan, and Chrysler is proud to be a part of that."
Joining Eaton for the announcement were Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer,
Alfred Glancy III, Chairman of the DSO, and Peter Cummings, Vice Chairman of
the DSO.
One million dollars of the grant completes the $5 million commitment the
Chrysler Fund announced last July to support more than 75 local cultural
organizations. The additional $1 million comes over and above the grants
announced in July. Chrysler Fund's commitment to local cultural arts
organizations over the last couple of years has totaled more than $10 million.
The Chrysler Fund was founded in 1953 as the charitable foundation. To
date, the Fund has distributed more than $177 million in charitable grants
throughout America.
