Scheuring to Step Down as Vice Chairman of PNC Bank Corp., Will Remain as Director of Corporation

    PITTSBURGH, Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomas H. O'Brien, chairman and chief
executive officer of PNC Bank Corp. (NYSE: PNC), announced today that Garry J.
Scheuring will step down as vice chairman and a member of the Office of the
Chairman, effective Feb. 28, to pursue other interests.  Scheuring, 57, will
continue as a director of the corporation.
    O'Brien said, "Garry has made a valuable contribution to the progress of
PNC Bank, and he leaves our management team with our thanks and best wishes.
He played an important role in the very successful integration of Midlantic
Bank into PNC Bank. I'm particularly delighted he will remain as a director
