PORTLAND, Ore., June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Tactica Corporation announces the
availability of version 2.3 of its Caprera Programmable OFTP Server software,
an off-the-shelf product that enables companies to build and deploy extended
transaction applications over the Internet.
Major enhancements in Caprera 2.3 include expanded platform and network
coverage. Caprera for SUN Solaris and HP/UX server platforms will begin
shipping on August 8, 1997. IBM MVS support will become available in October
1997. Additional networking features include MAPI (MS Exchange), SMTP
(Netscape e-mail), and a wide variety of ISP vendors, such as Compuserve, AOL,
AT&T, Sprint, GTE, USWest, UUNet, Netcom, and MSN. With the addition the new
capabilities in this release, Caprera 2.3 offers a complete solution for
secure and reliable extended transactions over the Internet and other
wide-area network infrastructure.
"In addition to a dial up Internet connection that was previously
available, users can now exchange transaction objects securely, using regular
Internet Mail," said Raj Shastri, Director of Product Marketing. "Transactions
are directed to distributed databases using Internet E-mail addresses. The
incorporation of RSA encryption technology overcomes security issues which are
cited by customers as a prime concern. The expanded platform support makes it
even easier to incorporate the Caprera Programmable OFTP Server into existing
environments."
The extensive coding involved in custom building extended transaction
systems results in high risk, high cost, and extended time to solution. Now
there is a better alternative. Tactica's OFTP products include all of the
necessary functions to implement transactional applications over enterprise
wide-area networks, including wireless services. This allows for reduced risk,
faster time to solution, and reduced cost of ownership associated with
implementing and maintaining applications that can be adapted to keep up with
rapidly changing business processes.
"The Caprera system is a complete middleware solution for extended
transaction-oriented applications that integrate enterprise databases with
geographically distributed desktops and mobile clients. Unlike other
middleware products, it includes all the functions you need to build and
deploy an application across wide-area networks," stated Ezra Gottheil, Senior
Analyst of the Hurwitz Group.
Introduced in August 1996, Caprera remains the only programmable OFTP
server product available to the application developer community. The multitier
architecture of Caprera provides a framework to integrate with widely used
backend database products, front-end GUI application development tools, and
enterprise WAN infrastructures. Caprera's open architecture provides a
flexible environment allowing corporations to integrate with their business
partners' environments and removing a key obstacle in business-to-business
commerce.
A recent report by The Standish Group concluded, "In many ways, Internet
commerce is the ultimate off-line application...The Standish Group believes
conflict resolution software could be a key component to a successful Internet
commerce application."
In addition to the new server platform support announced today, the
Caprera product is currently available for Windows NT and IBM RS6000/AIX
platforms. Client platforms supported include Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and
Windows NT.
