Handset Lineup Reflects LG's Great Strides Forward in Advanced Feature
Development and Aggressive Marketing Initiatives
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- LG Electronics MobileComm, a leading
worldwide provider of advanced wireless handsets and accessories previewed its
aggressive 2006 mobile phone product roadmap at the 2006 Consumer Electronics
Show (CES). In addition to its 2006 handsets that integrate the latest
wireless technologies with style and function for the U.S. market, LG also
emphasized its global reach and showcased 22 different models available
outside the U.S. CES attendees can get a closer look at LG mobile phone
technology at the LG Booth, #8214 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas
Convention Center.
LG Mobile Phones' strong presence at CES reflects the company's growing
U.S. market share, which rose to 19.6 percent in the third quarter of 2005.
Third-quarter shipments catapulted LG to the number two spot across all mobile
phone manufacturers, while LG maintained the largest share of the U.S. CDMA
mobile handset market; increasing its CDMA market share to a 2005 average of
32 percent in this highly competitive arena. LG also strengthened its
position as a GSM handset manufacturer, securing the number four spot -- only
two years after the launch of its first GSM device. With strong growth in the
GSM market, up 4.2 percent to a GSM market share of 10.3 percent(i), LG is
poised to continue its expansion into the U.S. GSM space into 2006.
Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics MobileComm, said, "Our 2006 handset
roadmap features a myriad of products that push the envelope of mobile phone
technology and functionality."
Highlighting its global offerings, LG Mobile Phones displayed its full
scope of handset styles and functions available outside of the U.S. Devices
on display show video telephony, 5 mega-pixel camera capability and
terrestrial DMB functionality. Several new swivel designs and accessories
exude style and accentuate the mobile phone users' experience. Further, fun
takes centerstage with handsets capable of mobile karaoke and the ultimate in
3-D mobile gaming, the 'PowerPlay' handset, which boasts an awesome million
polygons per second. Other handsets provide consumers with a glimpse into
future mobile phone technology in the United States, including units that
double as navigation devices and a health-oriented handset that can test blood
sugar, body fat and stress levels.
