Nokia launches second PND with high quality navigation, bluetooth handsfree
and multimedia applications
CHICAGO, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a
leading global provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation and
location-based solutions, is supplying map data for the new Nokia 500 Auto
Navigation personal navigator, which is the company's second PND.
Designed to offer navigation, communication and multimedia features,
the Nokia 500 Auto Navigation has a large 4.3" touch screen, an intuitive,
easy to use interface; and integrated GPS and TMC (for traffic information)
receivers. With very recent (at least mid 2007) pan-European, high quality
maps from NAVTEQ, there have been no compromises on the navigation
function.
From offline route planning and trip management to turn by turn voice
instructions (including street names), this new PND is a sophisticated
navigator which uses Nokia navigation software and makes excellent use of
the NAVTEQ data. It offers visual images of motorway exit numbers and
signposts; a range of options for selecting destinations; and interactive
points of interest.
Offering all the attributes of a complete car kit, including handsfree
phone operation through phone-book download with compatible mobile phone
and DSP for echo cancellation, the Nokia 500 Auto Navigation will also play
music on the car radio via integrated FM Transmitter and away from the car,
the large screen is great for sharing photographs or watching videos. As
you would expect from Nokia, the handsfree function supports voice dialing,
call stacking and call waiting.
Serge Bussat, VP and General Manager of NAVTEQ Consumer Applications
Group, commented, "Nokia's introduction of this product emphasizes the
direction the market is taking towards multi media navigators -- consumers
are now expecting a whole range of features on all their electronic gadgets
and sat nav systems are no exception."
