SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- H. Joan Ehrlich, a
much- honored leader in civil rights enforcement the past 35 years, has
been appointed chair of the San Francisco Bay Area Federal Executive Board
(FEB). Ehrlich currently serves as the director of the San Francisco
District Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The
FEB appointment is for a one-year term.
The San Francisco Bay Area FEB, one of 28 nationwide, coordinates
Federal government activity within the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa,
Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma. It's
involved with a variety of programs, including the annual Combined Federal
Campaign charitable drive, training and development programs, disaster
training and coordination, the pooling of Federal resources, savings bond
drives and employee recognition events. FEBs were established in 1961 under
President John F. Kennedy.
With her EEOC duties stretching into seven western states, Ehrlich
enforces Federal laws pertaining to civil rights, equal pay, age
discrimination and discrimination against disabled individuals. In her new
FEB position, Ehrlich is pressing Federal managers to encourage the
recruitment, hiring and promotion of disabled persons. "I really think the
Federal government needs to be a role model for the rest of the country,"
she says. "We want to show we give opportunities to anyone in this country
who can do the job."
Ehrlich has pioneered programs in mediation, outreach and customer
service for the EEOC and has held several leadership positions for the FEB,
including serving as chair of the 2004 and 2005 San Francisco Bay
Area/Silicon Valley Combined Federal Campaigns. In a similar EEOC position
in Houston, Ehrlich was twice-named Federal Executive of the Year. Ehrlich
received a B.S. cum laude from Syracuse University and is a graduate of
Harvard University's "Senior Managers in Government" program.
