New Web-Based Portal Provides County Citizens Anywhere,
Anytime Access to Property Documents and Information
COSTA MESA, Calif., March 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- FileNet Corporation
(Nasdaq: FILE), the leading provider of Enterprise Content and Business
Process Management solutions, today announced that the Suffolk County
(New York) Clerk's Office has implemented FileNet Enterprise Content
Management (ECM) to support anywhere, anytime access to recorded mortgages,
deeds, liens, judgments, and related property information in the public
domain. The online system enables Suffolk County citizens to now immediately
access recorded documents in the FileNet repository.

The Suffolk County Clerk's Office receives thousands of records every day.
The office, which is responsible for recording all property documents for the
1,000-square-mile county, was faced with a mass of paper and hindered by its
remote location. To more effectively respond to citizen information requests,
the Clerk's Office turned to FileNet to improve information access. Today,
the county's FileNet-based system is available to citizens 24/7 via the
Internet, contains more than 16 million land record documents, and is growing
by 15,000 documents every day.
"FileNet has been chosen by more than ten agencies at both the state and
county level in New York, and recently was declared the ECM standard at the
Office of State Comptroller and the state's Department of Civil Service.
Because of this broad acceptance, we didn't want to deviate from the norm,"
said Peter Schlussler, director, information technology, Suffolk County
Clerk's Office. "FileNet significantly exceeded our requirements and has
enabled us to achieve our evolving information management and access
objectives. With the FileNet ECM system, both Clerk's Office employees and
Suffolk County citizens are able to access information in minutes instead of
hours or days -- a significant improvement in our customer service."
By replacing the legacy, manual-entry process for document recording, the
FileNet system enabled Suffolk County to automate its business processes --
reducing document recording time from weeks to a single day. Further, the
system has created an opportunity for a new revenue stream for the County.
Beginning in 2005, Suffolk County plans to offer expanded functionality to
businesses that interface with the County Clerk's office through a fee-based
service. This new service will offer businesses increased search capabilities
and "push technology," providing alerts of updated information in the system
to subscribers via e-mail.
"Suffolk County is a prime example of FileNet's ability to support the
full spectrum of a government's business operations -- from content management
to customer service," said Martyn Christian, chief marketing officer for
FileNet. "We are excited to play a continuing role in supporting the
requirements of the state of New York and its local jurisdictions."
Suffolk County plans to expand the current FileNet implementation to
encompass a complete business process management solution designed to automate
the recording and processing of land record documentation. Offering the
ability to identify property value and other key information at any time, this
automated approach, coupled with the existing image management and information
access systems, is designed to support Suffolk County's goal to treat real
estate information as a real-time commodity.
