End Childhood Hunger Aims to Set World Record for Largest Cupcake
WASHINGTON, March 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Share Our Strength(R),
a national organization working to make sure no kid in America grows up
hungry, will host the World's Largest Bake Sale at Mall of America(R) in
Bloomington, MN on Sunday, March 30, 2008. Sandra Lee, star of
Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee and Duff Goldman star of Ace of Cakes
on Food Network will make appearances.
The World's Largest Bake Sale will feature recipes from Sandra Lee, and
Food Network stars Nigella Lawson, Paula Deen, Ellie Krieger, Robin Miller,
Ingrid Hoffman and Pat and Gina Neely. Lee will be on site to meet and
greet fans during her book signings. Goldman will attempt to set the
Guinness Book of World of Records for the World's Largest Cupcake, which
will be featured in an upcoming episode of his show, Ace of Cakes. A
representative from the Guinness Book of World Records will be on site to
declare the cupcake as the world's largest.
"What better way to fight hunger than a cupcake the size of a Shetland
Pony? We're really excited to be a part of this event for Great American
Bake Sale," said Goldman.
The World's Largest Bake Sale is a kick-off event for Share Our
Strength's Great American Bake Sale, a national campaign that mobilizes
Americans to end childhood hunger by holding bake sales in their
communities. Running through June, the campaign has already engaged more
than 1 million people in the last four years, raising nearly $4 million to
fight childhood hunger in America. More than 12 million children are at
risk of hunger in America, meaning they do not have a reliable source of
food on a regular basis.
"As someone who grew up with hunger, I am proud to be part of this
event that will help children in the Minneapolis community as well as raise
awareness of the issue of hunger nationally," said Lee.
Since 1998, Share Our Strength has made investments to over 21
organizations in Minneapolis and to more than 1,000 organizations across
America and worldwide to fight childhood hunger. In Minnesota, more than
132,000 children are at risk of hunger. Funds raised from the World's
Largest Bake Sale will be given back to the Minneapolis community to fund
organizations fighting childhood hunger.
Supporting the execution of the World's Largest Bake Sale include
Domino(R) Sugar and C&H(R) Sugar, King Arthur Flour and Reynolds, who are
supplying sugar, flour and packaging respectively, and The International
Culinary School at The Art Institutes Minnesota who will bake all the baked
goods sold.
