Celebrities Clad in Plaid Celebrate National Tartan Day
Runway Fashion Show to Benefit Friends Of Scotland Charity
The Sword of William Wallace (Braveheart) - a National Treasure of Scotland -
to be Displayed at Event
NEW YORK, April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Want to answer that age-old question --
what do Scotsmen really wear under their kilts? Then come have a "peek" at
the Johnnie Walker Dressed to Kilt event benefiting Friends Of Scotland, which
will take place on National Tartan Day, April 6th in New York City. And you
can ask the celebrities what's under their kilts at a Scottish Evening of
Fashion and Fun.
The theme of this year's Dressed to Kilt, sponsored by Johnnie Walker, the
world's best selling Scotch Whiskey, will be "Glasgow Meets Havana at ... the
Copacabana", which also happens to be the venue. The runway fashion show will
feature 30 "hot" men and 10 "gorgeous" women all clad in plaid, strutting the
catwalk for charity!
Honorary Chairmen of this year's event include Sir Sean and Lady Connery;
Ted Turner and Rebekah Stewart; Stone and Debra Phillips; Kyle MacLachlan and
Desiree Gruber; Craig Ferguson; Brian Cox; Gavin Hastings; and members of the
Scottish Parliament -- the Rt. Honorable George Reid, The Presiding Officer,
The Scottish Parliament; Ms. Patricia Ferguson MSP, Minister for Tourism,
Culture and Sport, The Scottish Executive; and Sir Philip Thomas, British
Consul-General, British Consulate, NY.
But the bold faced names don't stop there -- Models for the evening
include Queer Eye for the Straight Guy's Ted Allen and Thom Filicia; Actor
Anne Hathaway (The Princess Diaries); supermodel/TV reality star Marcus
Schenkenberg; CNN's Paula Zahn; Actor Gerard Butler (Phantom of the Opera);
New York Post "Page Six" editor Richard Johnson; Kansas City Chiefs' Lawrence
Tynes; Scottish rugby star Scott Hastings; Scottish pop idol Darius; Olympic
Gold Medallist swimmer Gary Hall; Actor Tony Curran (Flight of the Phoenix);
Scottish soccer legend Mo Johnston; and celebutantes Tinsley Mortimer, Zani
Gugelmann, and Elizabeth Kieselstein-Cord.
Those lucky enough to have the most coveted seats in the house dutifully
serve on a panel of judges that includes Lady Micheline Connery, Muffie Potter
Aston, Yancy Butler, David Patrick Columbia, Ann Curry, Ann Dexter Jones,
Simon Doonan, Patricia Duff, Moira Forbes, Cristina Greeven Cuomo, Laura Hunt,
Blair Husain, Sale Johnson, Lisa Ling, Fern Mallis, Denise Rich, Belinda
Robertson, Susan Shin, and Gigi Stone.
If celebrities alone weren't enough of a draw to attend, we also have a
national treasure of Scotland. Leaving its homeland for the first time since
William Wallace wielded it more than 700 years ago is the sword immortalized
on film in the movie Braveheart. The Wallace Sword has been an icon of
freedom and liberation for centuries.
