CAMBRIDGE, Mass., April 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Biopure Corporation
(Nasdaq: BPUR) today announced the appointment of Allan Ferguson to the
company's board of directors. He brings to the board over 25 years of
operating and management experience in engineering, manufacturing, and
research and development, and 20 years of experience in international
venture capital investing with life science and technology companies.
Ferguson is also a director of Autoimmune Inc., TransMedics Inc.,
Ulthera Inc., Xthetix Inc., and ZONARE Medical Systems. He recently retired
as a senior partner of 3i's Venture Capital Group, where he headed up the
firm's U.S. operation that he helped start. He previously served as a
Biopure board member from December 1988 to December 1990, in connection
with 3i's investment in the company.
Ferguson was formerly a managing partner of Aspen Ventures and a
general partner of Atlas Ventures, where he helped establish Atlas'
healthcare practice. He has also held senior operating positions at Johnson
& Johnson, Ortho Diagnostics Systems Inc. and Damon Biotech, where he
served as a managing director and senior vice president responsible for
European operations.
Ferguson is a member of the New England Venture Capital Association
(NEVCA) and the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), and was
previously a board member of the National Venture Capital Association
(NVCA). He holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of
Delaware and attended the Harvard Executive Management program.
