Businesses Join Forces to Boost New 'Carbon-Offset' Program, City Official
Speaks on Baltimore's Environmental Progress
BALTIMORE, April 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In conjunction with
Earth Day, a city business on Thursday, April 19th will launch a new local
effort to offset carbon output and reduce the damage to the environment.
Eco-friendly furniture and home accessory retailer bluehouse, will announce
participation in a new program to harness wind power to create electricity.
At a press conference on Thursday, bluehouse will challenge other Baltimore
businesses to do the same.
Bluehouse joins national companies such as General Motors, Johnson &
Johnson, and Kinko's by investing in power created from clean and
environmentally healthy wind turbines. The hope is that more wind turbines
will be created to further offset traditional forms of energy that are
contributing to global warming. Unlike traditional energy sources, wind
turbines are completely renewable and do not pollute the natural
environment.
"We are making the leap and urging other Maryland businesses to do the
same. It's estimated that if just 10% of Maryland's businesses participate
in this program, we would cut down on more than 4.5 million pounds of
atmospheric carbon dioxide each year," said bluehouse owner David Buscher.
He added that this is a great way for businesses to think globally and act
locally.
Baltimore City Councilmember Jim Kraft will speak at the event
addressing the city's environmental progress thus far and his overall
vision to make the city greener. A representative from Environment Maryland
will provide evidence of the economic benefits of eco-friendly business
practices. Jim Maguire, the president of Wind Current, the company that
provides Renewable Energy Certificates to bluehouse and other Maryland
organizations, will speak on their innovative service.
The press conference will take place at the bluehouse store at 1407
Fleet Street in Baltimore, Maryland at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 19,
2007. The backdrop of the event will be the showroom of earth-friendly
furniture and accessories, including the introduction of the store's new
line of environmentally friendly bathroom furniture. The bluehouse cafe
will provide free coffee at the event. For more information on bluehouse,
