Classic Symbols of Friendship Will Brighten Communities Coast to Coast with
Signature Pink and White Blossoms
CHERRY HILL, N.J., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- This year, Subaru of
America, Inc. celebrates its 40th anniversary in the United States -- and
while some car companies might mark the occasion with a sleek concept car
or a lavish party, Subaru is ringing in "the big 4-0" by planting what will
amount to a small forest of trees -- as many as 160 trees -- across the
country.

Symbolizing four decades, or forty years, of Subaru in the American
community, locations receiving cherry trees include Aurora, CO; Austell,
GA; Cherry Hill, NJ; Itasca, IL; Pennsauken, NJ; Portland, OR; Westampton,
NJ; and Whitestown, IN. Planting began in April, allowing many of the
blossoms to debut by Earth Day -- April 22 -- and will wrap up in the Fall
as recipient parks and communities finalize locations for the donated
trees.
"This donation of flowering cherry trees to the communities in which we
have offices and facilities goes hand-in-hand with our company's culture of
positive environmental stewardship," notes Tim Mahoney, senior vice
president and CMO, Subaru of America, Inc. "A gift of greenery should come
as no surprise to anyone familiar with the Subaru brand and Subaru plant in
Lafayette, Indiana, as that plant was the first in the country to achieve
'zero landfill status,' which means that nothing from its manufacturing
efforts goes into a landfill because it is all reused and recycled."
A true harbinger of spring, the cherry tree has historically been given
as a gesture of friendship. Subaru's celebratory gift of the flowering
cherry trees -- with their distinctive pink and white blossoms -- will
beautify the locations for years to come.
