The WeatherBug S60 widget will be available from http://weatherbug.com
and via the Nokia Download! store and nokia.mobi site. Nokia also plans to
pre-install WeatherBug on select Nokia devices; enabling the widget to be
easily accessible with a single click from the S60 idle screen or
applications menu.
Free to all users, the WeatherBug widget will be supported by
advertising sold by both the Nokia and WeatherBug sales organizations.
"Accurate, local weather information is of the utmost importance to our
users, not only to plan their days, but to protect their families from
severe weather. WeatherBug's technology and content are the industry
standard, and we are very pleased to make it available to our users," said
Tom Libretto, vice president of Forum Nokia. "Given the popularity of
weather information to users, we see significant long term business
opportunities for both organizations through the sale of advertising."
According to a Telephia Mobile Internet and IM Report, weather is the
number one mobile Internet category after email and is also one of the four
most important channels on WAP.
"The mobile device will soon become the preferred platform for the
delivery of on-demand weather information to consumers and we are thrilled
to announce we are working with Nokia to bring the benefits of our
proprietary technology and content to users around the globe," said Bob
Marshall, founder, president and CEO of AWS Convergence Technologies, owner
of WeatherBug.
The WeatherBug S60 widget includes live, local weather information for
more than 50,000 locations worldwide and is local language supported for
all regions. Detailed views of the seven day forecast, radar and satellite
imagery, and camera images from WeatherBug's proprietary weather network
are also available on the S60 mobile widget.
"Nokia has made it a priority to work with WeatherBug and we are
excited to launch with them and develop on the S60 WRT platform," Chris
Brozenick, VP of Product, WeatherBug. "Nokia's S60 3rd edition browser
platform is a perfect vehicle to drive mobile widget utilization. The
platform provided us with the tools to add "bells and whistles" that lead
to an easy and elegant user experience."
WeatherBug's weather information provides a level of depth and
granularity that is unmatched in the industry. By combining its key asset
