SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cepheid
(Nasdaq: CPHD) today announced that the United States Postal Service (USPS)
yesterday issued a press release stating that further deployment of the
Biohazard Detection System (BDS) is being temporarily delayed. In the process
of the recently initiated production deployment of the BDS, selected mail
sorting lines representing only a small number of the total systems deployed
at this time began to experience an increase in the rate of non-determinant
tests. As noted in the USPS press release, a non-determinant test does not
indicate a threat is suspected. It simply means that the test did not provide
an answer.
"It is not unexpected that a new program may run into unique issues during
initial deployment. What is important is to maintain an objective and
scientifically valid analysis of issues as they arise in order to minimize or
eliminate further issues as deployment proceeds. Cepheid is actively working
with Northop Grumman and the USPS in addressing this particular issue and
looks forward to continue working as an effective team member now and in the
future," stated John L. Bishop, Chief Executive Officer.
