Continues to be the Chicagoland leader for net paid newspaper circulation
CHICAGO, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Chicago Tribune today released
circulation and readership results for the most recent periods. For the
six-month reporting period ended April 1, 2007, Chicago Tribune is
reporting Sunday individually paid circulation (home delivery plus single
copy) of 912,534, down 0.3 percent from the same period last year. Sunday's
total average paid circulation was 940,620, down 1.7 percent from the same
period last year. Monday-Friday individually paid circulation remained
flat, down 0.4 percent to 545,044, while its total average paid circulation
fell 2.1 percent to 566,827, according to figures filed by the newspaper
with the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), subject to audit.
Chicago Tribune's Monday-Friday and Sunday home delivery circulation
grew 1.6 percent and 2.1 percent, respectively. During the past few years,
Tribune has led a trend in the industry in focusing on individually paid
circulation. This reflects a strong commitment to growing audiences that
are actively engaged with Tribune content and are most likely to respond to
advertiser messages.
The newspaper also reported that readership of the Chicago Tribune
among adults in the market has held steady during the past year with
approximately 1.8 million weekday readers and 2.6 million Sunday readers.
Combined with its sister newspapers -- RedEye and Hoy Chicago, which have
weekday readerships of about 280,000 and 180,000, respectively -- the
papers reach 3.8 million adults, about 54 percent of the Chicago market.*
Additionally, Chicago Tribune Interactive, which includes
chicagotribune.com, metromix.com and chicagosports.com, drew an average of
3.2 million monthly unique visitors during the past six months.**
"The Tribune is totally committed to delivering the news and
information that best meets the changing needs of our customers and
communities," said Scott Smith, publisher, president and CEO of Chicago
Tribune. "These solid circulation, readership and online audience results
reflect our progress advancing Chicgaoland's leading media choices."
