White Castle Salutes Customers with 87 Minutes of 27-Cent Burgers - May 27,
2-3:27 pm!
COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Even though Seymour, Wisconsin
was deemed the "original" home of the hamburger in a 1992 contest sponsored
by White Castle, Columbus, Ohio's White Castle System, Inc. has reserved
the honor of being the official sponsor of National Hamburger Month each
year during the entire month of May. No other fast-food hamburger chain can
ever own this designation, recognized annually in Chase's Calendar of
Events. For National Hamburger Month this year, White Castle is celebrating
their 87th anniversary and turning back the clocks for 87 minutes of
vintage-priced burgers.

The first fast-food hamburger chain, famous for its tasty,
one-of-a-kind steam-grilled Slyders(R), is 87 years young and still going
strong. They've been in business continuously since 1921 and there are big
plans to thank their loyal customers for their business over the years.
They're celebrating in style by offering burgers at a vintage price, 27
cents -- for 87 minutes only, on one day only, May 27th, from 2:00 p.m. to
3:27 p.m. (limit 10). Selected locations in all White Castle restaurant
markets will participate in the limited time, 87 minute, 27-cent hamburger
offer. "We hope to make many White Castle cravers very happy during those
87 minutes at our participating locations," said marketing VP Kim Bartley.
Over 250 locations will participate in the 87-minute promotion.
White Castle opened its first restaurant in Wichita, Kansas in 1921 and
started out selling its burgers for only 5 cents. During the 1930s prices
increased little by little. It was 1950 before the price of a hamburger
rose from 10 to 12 cents. The 12-cent price held until 1967 when the price
of a burger increased to 14 cents. The price of a Slyder didn't reach the
27-cent mark until the early 1980s. While prices have always varied from
city to city, the average price of a White Castle hamburger today is 53
cents.
The offer applies to customers visiting a participating White Castle
restaurant between 2:00 p.m. and 3:27 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 only,
limit ten 27-cent hamburgers per person. The promotion will be supported
with in-store posters and reader board messages.
White Castle owns and operates restaurants in Chicago, Cincinnati,
Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, Louisville, Minneapolis, Nashville, New
Jersey, New York, and St. Louis. For more information go to
