HARLEYSVILLE, Pa., May 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Raymond J. De Hont,
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Met-Pro Corporation (NYSE: MPR),
announced today that George H. Glatfelter II, Chairman and CEO of the
Glatfelter Company (NYSE: GLT) and Dr. Constantine N. Papadakis, President of
Drexel University, have been elected Directors of the Company.
In making the announcement, De Hont said, "We are honored that Mr.
Glatfelter and Dr. Papadakis have decided to join our Board. We are confident
that their outstanding qualifications and experience will be tremendous assets
to Met-Pro as we continue to grow our company."
Mr. Glatfelter, 52, is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the
Glatfelter Company, headquartered in York, Pennsylvania. The company is a
publicly traded multinational enterprise operating five facilities in four
different countries, with annual revenues in excess of $500 million. It is a
leading producer of specialized papers and engineered paper products that are
marketed in over eighty countries worldwide. Their wholly-owned subsidiary,
the Glatfelter Pulpwood Company, owns and manages approximately 89,000 acres
of forestland in the mid-Atlantic region to supply wood fiber for the
papermaking process.
During his business career, which began with the Glatfelter Company in
1977, Mr. Glatfelter has held positions in human resources, maintenance and
engineering, operations, planning, and sales and marketing, leading to his
election as a Director of the Company in 1992. He was appointed to the
position of Senior Vice President in 1995 with operating and sales
responsibilities for the company. In 1998, he was elected President and Chief
Executive Officer, and was subsequently elected Chairman in 1999.
Mr. Glatfelter earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Roanoke College,
in Salem, Virginia, in 1975.
Mr. Glatfelter also serves as a Director of The American Forest and Paper
Association and of The National Council of Air and Stream Improvement. He is
a Trustee of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and is Chairman of the
Environment and Energy Committee of the Pennsylvania Business Roundtable. Mr.
Glatfelter also serves as a Trustee of York College of Pennsylvania, and as a
Director of The York Foundation, a non-profit charitable foundation dedicated
to the social and economic betterment of the York area.
Dr. Papadakis, 58, an innovator in higher education with extensive
experience in both academe and the corporate world, has been President of
Drexel University since 1995. Prior to joining Drexel University, Dr.
Papadakis' academe experience included serving as the Dean of the University
of Cincinnati's College of Engineering and heading up Colorado State
University's Civil Engineering Department.
During his corporate career Dr. Papadakis was employed by Bechtel, Inc.
where he rose to the position of Chief Engineer; STS Consultants, one of the
top 150 engineering design firms in the nation, as Vice President in charge of
the Water Resources Division; and Tetra Tech, a Honeywell subsidiary, as a
Vice President.
Dr. Papadakis earned his diploma in Civil Engineering from the National
Technical University of Athens in Greece. He holds a master's degree in Civil
Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and a doctorate from the
University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He is a Professional Engineer registered
in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Greece.
Dr. Papadakis presently serves as a member of the Business Higher
Education Forum and the Council on Competitiveness. He also serves on the
Board of Directors of the National Commission for Cooperative Education, the
University City Science Center, the Ben Franklin Technology Center of
Southeastern Pennsylvania and the World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia.
He is a member of the Executive Board of the Cradle of Liberty Council of the
Boy Scouts of America, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce Executive
Committee, the America-Israel Chamber of Commerce, the Team Pennsylvania
Ambassadors Council, the Board of Directors of the Opera Company of
Philadelphia, the Hellenic College/Holy Cross Board of Trustees, the National
Board of Directors of Junior Achievement Inc. and the Judicial Council of the
Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. Dr. Papadakis also serves on the Board of
Directors of CorCell Inc., Sovereign Bank, Inc., Mace Security International,
Inc. as well as the Philadelphia Stock Exchange Board of Governors. He was
recently appointed by the government of Singapore to that nation's
International Academic Advisory Panel. Philadelphia magazine listed Dr.
Papadakis as one of the 100 most powerful people in Philadelphia, and the
Philadelphia Tribune listed him as one of the 10 most influential people in
the African-American community.
De Hont also announced today that Jeffrey H. Nicholas, a Director since
1998, has resigned from the Board. Mr. Nicholas, a partner in the law firm of
Fox Rothschild LLP, will continue to serve as the Company's General Counsel
and attend all Board meetings.
