EveryScape Taps into Local Communities to Create the "People's World"
WALTHAM, Mass., May 29 /PRNewswire/ -- EveryScape, Inc. today announced
the upcoming launch of EveryScape.com, the world's first interactive
eye-level search that offers Web users a totally immersive world on the
Internet. By enlisting consumers' contributions, EveryScape is actively
creating a virtual experience of all metropolitan, suburban and rural areas
in which visitors can share their stories and opinions about real-life
daily experiences against a photo-realistic backdrop ranging from streets
and cities, communities, restaurants, schools, real estate and the like.
San Francisco will be the first city launched this September, with nine
major metro areas to follow by the end of 2007. A working preview of the
San Francisco experience is available at http://www.everyscape.com.
EveryScape is bridging the gap between the physical world and the
virtual one by allowing people to search, find and experience every aspect
of a city or town. This includes exploration of both exterior and interior
"points of interest" that exist on any terrain. With EveryScape.com, users
not only tour cities and towns, but also interact, collaborate and share in
the creation of EveryScape.com. For example, while "walking" through Union
Square in San Francisco via EveryScape.com, users can window shop
storefronts as well as tour the inside of those stores, see their
offerings, and access published reviews and other information. As users
tour an area, they can add their own content, including relevant links,
personal reviews, rankings and so on. Users can also add their own points
of interest by contributing links, text and even their own visual
representations. For example, someone looking to rent his or her apartment
can add a "For Rent" sign and an apartment tour. Moreover, EveryScape.com
requires no special software or downloads; users simply need a
Flash-enabled browser with broadband Internet access.
A Simple, Scalable Approach to Building the "People's World"
To tackle the challenge of building the entire world online, EveryScape
is leveraging its patented HyperMedia Technology Platform(TM). This
one-of-a-kind approach enables almost anyone to capture the imagery needed
to build out a geographic location with minimal training. Images are
captured with standard digital single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras, and then
uploaded to EveryScape for processing. EveryScape can use images captured
in almost any environment including urban and residential settings,
forests, mountains, beaches and even underwater. By employing this highly
scalable approach, EveryScape is tapping into local communities and users
to assist in building out a visual library of content that will cover the
entire world.
"Building the online world is a massive undertaking. And no one company
or technology can do it alone - nor should they. We are on a quest to help
build the 'People's World'," said Jim Schoonmaker, president and CEO of
EveryScape. "That means we must use a simple and scalable approach that
allows any person to participate on their terms."
EveryScape to Launch 10 Metropolitan Areas in 2007
EveryScape plans to launch 10 major metropolitan areas by the end of
2007, including the cities and their surrounding communities. Users can
vote on additional cities and towns to be created at http://www.everyscape.com.
Members of the local communities will then be enlisted to help in the
creation of those online experiences. The current schedule for 2007
includes the five following areas beginning in September, with the
remaining five to be determined by the public's votes.
1. San Francisco
2. Boston
3. New York
4. Seattle
5. Chicago
