Advanced Redaction Capabilities Form Newest Addition
to ZyIMAGE Legal Product Suite
VIENNA, Va., June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- ZyLAB, an innovative developer of
content management and compliance solutions for paper intensive organizations,
today announced that it is offering advanced redaction as a standard tool in
its XML Wrapper Module, a key component in ZyLAB's ZyIMAGE Legal Product
Suite. This product suite already contains tools for case management,
advanced discovery, e-disclosure and other tools supporting important legal
productivity activities.
Redaction is the legal "blacking out" of certain details in documents
(such as names, dates, and addresses) for the purpose of creating anonymity in
evidence. When information is disclosed to a third party in a legal case or
in accordance to guidelines spelled out in legislation such as the Freedom of
Information Act (FOIA), the disclosing party is allowed to, under strict
rules, redact certain information not relevant to the context in which the
information is being evaluated (such as names of employees, witnesses, or
other confidential information). Redaction is often an intensive manual
process, usually done by hand with black markers, which means it is expensive
and is prone to errors.
Wide Range of Functionality
ZyLAB's new redaction tools offer a full range of the most-requested
redaction features, including redaction on scanned images as well as click-
and-drag capabilities, multi-color redaction, synonym redactions (replacing a
name with a code), version control, and more. Redactions can be tagged with
additional key-field information, which can contain data and time stamps,
comments or applicable legal rules, redaction creators, and additional user-
defined key fields.
More security than PDF or MS-Word
Redacted documents can be exported as XML with multi-paged TIFFs or image
PDFs. Unlike standard PDFs or Word files, though, in which the redacted text
isn't always 100% secure, a ZyIMAGE-created PDF does not contain any hidden
traces or references to the original text. In other words, the redaction is
"burned" into the PDF or image, making it impossible for anyone to manipulate
the redacted information or to recover the redacted text.
Prevention of Disclosure Blunders
With ZyLAB's redaction solutions, as soon as redactions are applied, they
are added to the XML structure of the documents. Because the redactions are
linked in a perpetual manner to the documents, historical redactions are
immediately available if a document is redacted at a later moment in time.
This capability ensures that sensitive parts of original documents will not be
disclosed even if that document needs to be used at different times in
different contexts with different sets of redactions.
Functionality developed in tandem with users
ZyLAB designed its electronic redaction tool with the input of many
ZyIMAGE power users, such as the War Crimes Tribunals for Rwanda and
Yugoslavia, several UK and USA law-enforcement and government officials, and
ZyLAB partners operating in highly specialized legal services sectors.
With the addition of this secure redaction capability as a component of
the advanced and scaleable ZyIMAGE Legal Solutions, ZyLAB's continues its
aggressive positioning as the preferred solution provider for the most
relevant legal productivity tools at the most affordable prices.
