PHILADELPHIA, June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The new tradition of making the
PHILADELPHIA FOLK FESTIVAL more "user-friendly" is here to stay, as organizers
are deepening their commitment to ensure one of the nation's oldest and most
revered musical gatherings best complements the modern lifestyles of its
wonderful supporters.
For its 43d edition -- unfolding August 27-29 at the Old Pool Farm near
Schwenksville, Pa. -- the festival is continuing to add more improvements to
make it easier for festival-goers to experience the entire three-day
extravaganza of traditional and contemporary folk, dance, crafts, camping, and
children's activities.
John Prine (who closes the festival, now ending early at 9:45 p.m.
Sunday), Natalie MacMaster, Taj Mahal, Chris Smither, Tom Russell, Ollabelle,
Mindy Smith and Eliza Gilkyson are among the top attractions at the 43rd
annual PHILADELPHIA FOLK FESTIVAL with able support from Robin & Linda
Williams, DaVinci's Notebook, Zydeco-a-go-go, Bill Kirchen, Brave Combo, The
Hickory Project -- 45 folk, world and roots artists providing more than 75
hours of music -- with an extra emphasis this year on dance.
A completely redesigned floor plan featuring the Grand Entrance Foyer
welcomes festival-goers as they pass through the main entrance with an active
area of merchandise, crafts and the new Dance Tent - with a 3,500-square-foot
wooden floored "studio," where top-shelf dance bands and callers will be
performing live.
The festival now has an abundance of attractions for kids, especially in
Dulcimer Grove, where puppeteers, jugglers, hands-on crafts, and storytellers
can be found. Older kids, 12 to 16, will be privy to a new half-price "youth
ticket" when accompanied by adult.
A special section of the campgrounds is designated for "quieter" Family
Camping. The campgrounds also offer jamming and large campfire singalongs
after each concert.
