ANN ARBOR, Mich., June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- For the first time, Give Camp
is coming to Ann Arbor July 11 - 13, 2008. A partnership between Microsoft,
Washtenaw Community College, Verio and the local developer community, Ann
Arbor Give Camp is a weekend-long event where software developers,
designers, and database administrators donate their time to create custom
software for local non-profit organizations.
"For resource and cash-strapped non-profits, the custom software
created by Give Camp participants can support an organization's mission by
delivering technology needs," explained Microsoft's Jennifer Marsman.
"Non-profits can benefit from myriad technologies created by developers who
participate in Give Camp, including a new Web site, a data collection
application or donor tracking application. The only limitation to what
developers can create for participating non-profits is that the project
will need to be completed in a weekend."
Developers and non-profits will collaborate at the Ann Arbor Give Camp
to develop custom software best suited to meet the needs of participating
organizations, including American Red Cross, Michigan Humane Society and
Forgotten Harvest. Throughout the weekend, developers will work on creating
software that will be presented to all participants at the conclusion of
the event.
Give Camp supporters include:
-- Microsoft, who made a cash donation and is taking a leading role in
organizing developers and non-profits to participate in Ann Arbor's first
Give Camp.
-- Washtenaw Community College has donated space for developers and
non-profits to collaborate as well as camping space for those wishing to
stay on-site the entire weekend.
-- Verio has agreed to provide two years of free Web site hosting to
non-profits who participate in Give Camp and require hosting services.
Verio is also sponsoring an on-site meal for participating developers and
volunteers.
-- Dominos Pizza is sponsoring an on-site meal for participating
developers and volunteers.
-- PR Newswire has donated media outreach services to Give Camp to
raise visibility for the event with developers, non-profits and others
throughout the region.
