Agence France Presse (AFP) Entrusts Three Renowned Software Vendors to
Build its Multimedia Search Platform
PARIS, June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- As they engage in a major modernization
project of their editorial system, AFP, one of the world's leading news
agencies, chose Antidot, TEMIS and Mondeca to deploy an information search
and analysis solution adapted to the wide range of multimedia contents they
produce (newswires, pictures, graphics and videos).
AFP required a dedicated solution that provides their Corporate and
media customers with the ability to quickly retrieve information from an
ever-growing flow of multilingual and multimedia information, as well as
from a twenty-million document archive. This solution had to be integrated
at first within the AFP's << Image Forum >>, its e-business platform for
pictures.
At the end of 2007, AFP initiates a selection process for technology
partners able to match their needs in the domains of Text Mining, XML
indexing and semantic search.
To address the AFP project, TEMIS, Mondeca and Antidot chose to combine
their value proposition in a joint proposal based upon TEMIS Luxid(R), a
powerful Text Analytics application able to process all languages managed
by AFP; Mondeca's ITM, a flexible ontology management system able to
organize AFP's taxonomies and multilingual thesaurus ; Antidot's AFS, a
robust indexing and search platform for AFP's XML content. These three
software solutions have already been successfully integrated in various
applications and their joint deployment does not require any system
integrator's services.
"After studying Text Analytics and Enterprise search markets, and
prototyping diverse solutions, we are convinced that the quality of these
three companies developments added to their respective team expertise and
enthusiasm will bring us a powerful and agile solution which will perfectly
match our current and future needs. We will deploy an innovative
cross-media content search platform by the end of 2008, which will embed
the most recent industry and semantic web standards like NewsML-G2 and
OWL," said Laurent Le Meur, Medialab Technical Manager at AFP.
This solution is currently in deployment phase. By 2009, it will
address AFP's media customers making complex search from << Image Forum >>
e-business platform, which contains more than 8 millions of pictures from
AFP and their sixteen partners (incl. Getty Images). The use of these
powerful Text Analytics and information search solutions should be then
extended to cover AFP journalists' needs for archive and multimedia
documentation searches. The combined software solutions will also be used
to enrich in real-time the contents of AFP's newswires with value-added
metadata.
