Partnership Enables CaringBridge Web Service Users to Access CDC Medical
Libraries as Loved Ones Undergo Medical Treatment or Recovery
EAGAN, Minn., June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- CaringBridge(R), a nonprofit Web
service that connects families and friends during medical treatment or
recovery, has formed a collaborative partnership with the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The new partnership enables
CaringBridge users to access CDC libraries of information on specific
medical conditions, so they can better understand and care for loved ones
coping with serious illnesses or injuries.
"When families and friends are trying to support someone undergoing
medical treatment, one of their most important needs, beyond emotional
support, is access to trusted medical information about a specific disease
or condition that their loved one may be coping with," said CaringBridge
founder Sona Mehring. "Our new partnership with CDC does just that,
providing 24-hour, online access to its extensive medical libraries. The
CDC is consistently identified as a highly-trusted source of medical
information."
CaringBridge is the largest charitable nonprofit Web site in the world,
according to Nielsen//NetRatings' Web traffic rankings. The service
connects more than 20 million friends and families each year through
personal CaringBridge Web sites that have generated over 500 million visits
and more than 15 million messages of hope and encouragement. This free
service is funded by individual donations and hospital and collaborative
partnerships.
The addition of CDC medical libraries is the newest service offered to
CaringBridge Web users. Through CaringBridge sites, families can easily
provide updates for those who care and still focus their energies on the
person who requires healing. Supporters can stay involved by reading posted
stories, viewing photos, signing guest books, and leaving messages of love
and support. At the same time, hospitals and treatment centers can ensure
patients and families receive the emotional support they need.
The CDC medical libraries are scheduled to be available on CaringBridge
Web sites beginning on today. For more information about CaringBridge,
