Award celebrates distinguished service to consumers and telephone industry
HERSHEY, Pa., July 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Tuesday evening, the
Pennsylvania Telephone Association (PTA) honored Nancy Clay, of Hampden
Township, PA, for her outstanding contributions to the telecommunications
industry, the Association, and the customers she serves. Ms. Clay is the
Business Relations Manager for EMBARQ, Harrisburg, PA. She received this
award at a ceremony following PTA's annual banquet Tuesday evening. The
awards ceremony is part of PTA's 105th annual conference being held July
15-18 at The Hotel Hershey in Hershey, PA.
"Nancy's vast experience and knowledge of the telephone industry,
coupled with her astute organizational, data, and people skills have served
not only EMBARQ Pennsylvania in a qualified and professional manner, but
has aided the PTA with her contributions, expertise and leadership," said
David Freet, PTA President. "These qualities, plus her willingness to make
things happen, have made her a PTA reliable 'go-to' leader to get things
done."
Ms. Clay joined United Telephone (later known as Sprint and later
changed to EMBARQ Pennsylvania) in 1984. Her career began just as the
industry began divestiture-related implementation activities. She began in
the Finance department, with emphasis in the carrier access billing (CABs)
area. As Ms. Clay gained experience and advanced in her career, she became
well know for her access charge, carrier marketing knowledge and people
skills.
Ms. Clay has had the opportunity to play a key role in several
significant company projects including the conversion of the accounting
system account codes. She became a qualified trainer to implement the
internal Sprint Quality Program and was appointed the company coordinator
for Y2K compliance.
Today, as EMBARQ Pennsylvania's Business Relations Manager, Ms. Clay
deals with external clients including ILECs (Independent Local Exchange
Carrier) and other carriers, coordinates and manages company policies and
special arrangements with clients, manages all aspects of EMBARQ
Pennsylvania's BFRR program, and participates in several PTA and New Jersey
Utility Association committees.
Ms. Clay has been a long-time supporter of PTA, including a member of
the Carrier Interface Committee, the co-chair of the EAS sub-committee, and
chair of the ITORP sub-committee. The ITORP sub-committee responsibilities
came at a time when several significant challenges were presented,
including a study to review other ITORP-like systems that may be a more
efficient, providing edits to output reports, coordinating ILEC
discrepancies, and overseeing ITORP contract revisions with all ILECs.
Because the telecommunications industry's ITORP process is a critical
revenue stream for incumbents, Ms. Clay's leadership role with ITORP and
its intricate detail has been of great value to all of PTA's members.
Ms. Clay earned her undergraduate degree in accounting from Clarion
University and her graduate degree from SMU in Telecommunications.
She and her husband Jim reside in Hampden Township. Distinguished
service awards were inaugurated in 2002, during the Association's 100th
anniversary year, to honor those pioneers who have helped pave the way to
make PTA and the telecommunications industry in Pennsylvania a critical
component of the state's infrastructure.
PTA represents the 37 local telephone exchange providers that serve
nearly 8 million business and residential lines throughout the
Commonwealth. Born under a different name in the early 1900's and today
based in Harrisburg, PTA has provided Pennsylvania's smallest and largest
telephone companies with a clear voice for more than a century. Committed
to the future of telecommunications, the PTA serves as an informational
clearinghouse for its members, as an advocate with state regulators and
legislators and as a watchdog of consumer protection. For more information
