Fenton Communications' Lisa Witter One of Three Finalists, Only Democrat
Vote May Offer Preview of November Election
NEW YORK, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ The public will vote to narrow the field
from three to two candidates on Showtime's The American Candidate, the reality
TV show where contestants compete to be selected as the most presidential
candidate, this coming Sunday, September 26th at 9 pm EDT.
Votes can be cast by calling a toll-free number or sending a text message.
The numbers will be announced on air at 9:45 pm EDT and on
http://www.americancandidate.com. This is the first time in the series that
the national audience can vote.
With one progressive Democrat, one anti-choice Republican and one
progressive independent, this "election" may be a preview for the real vote on
November 2nd, offering viewers the chance to pick a leader most closely
aligned with their values.
Lisa Witter, General Manager of Fenton Communications, the public-interest
strategy firm, is one of three finalists facing the public's choice this
weekend. She is the only Democrat left in the race. She lives in New York City
and is a Northwest native.
Witter was the only candidate to receive the help of MoveOn.org, the
2.8 million-member grassroots democracy group, in past episodes.
If Witter survives the vote this Sunday, she will face another vote the
following Sunday, as one of two finalists, when the public will pick the
winning American Candidate. The winner receives $200,000 and a chance to
address the nation on television.
Witter has been ready for politics from the moment her mom went into labor
on the 4th of July at a demolition derby. She shared her family's love for
fast cars and monster trucks, but the passion for politics was all her own.
She's the first woman in her family to go to college and to run a small
business.
"My campaign is about a fair America, an America that works for everyone,
not just the rich and powerful," says Witter. "I grew up in a blue-collar town
of Everett, Washington. My parents worked hard to provide for my little
brother and me. I'll never forget who I'm for and where I'm from -- America's
working families. In a fair America we have worry-free health care, we support
our troops and we work to end the war in Iraq. We have livable wage jobs, fair
taxes, access to education, a woman's right to choose and clean air and
water."
Asked how she fared on reality TV, Witter exclaimed, "This was a serious
show about serious issues. Let me be clear: no bugs were eaten." Interviews
available upon request. See http://www.americancandidate.com or

information.
About the show:
Week by week, candidates have faced off against each other in a series of
challenges designed to identify one individual who has the qualities to be
President of the United States. Episodes have featured well-known political
experts such as Ed Rollins, Joe Trippi and Frank Luntz, who advised the
candidates on the challenges they face. These consultants helped the
candidates shape their messages and campaigns, as well as advised on
everything from political ad creation and media coaching to image consulting
and polling.
Witter is one of 10 candidates from across the country chosen to compete
in Showtime Networks' unscripted and unprecedented reality series "American
Candidate," hosted by Emmy(R) Award-winning talk show host Montel Williams.
The 10-episode, one-hour program is created by Academy Award(R)-nominated and
Emmy(R)-winning documentary filmmaker R.J. Cutler ("The War Room," "American
High," Showtime's "Freshman Diaries").
