September 30th Race Key as Team Risi Looks to Take the Lead in Its Division
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Ferrari racers continue
to make their mark in the US ALMS racing world. The last race at Mosport
was a success for Ferrari -- with a one-two finish, the first time that has
happened in the ALMS. Team member Maurizio Mediani also made Ferrari
history by taking the fastest average lap of the race.
The result was a huge victory for both the Risi team and for Ferrari.
It lifted the team to within two points of the class leader and gave
Ferrari a similar boost in the manufacturer's competition. The Risi team
F430 GT #61 is co-owned by Ferrari of Silicon Valley.
"We are thrilled to support Risi in their quest for the title," stated
Giacomo Mattioli, President of Ferrari of Silicon Valley; co-owner of Team
Risi. "We are going into the last two months of the ALMS with a very strong
shot at the title."
The next race Ferrari will compete in is the Petit Le Mans series which
is hosted by Road Atlanta of Georgia. A class win for Ferrari at this
internationally renowned race will earn them automatic entry into next
year's 24 Hours of Le Mans.
"Our result at the Grand Prix of Mosport was tremendous for our team,"
said Remo Ferri. "We have been gaining more confidence and momentum in
every race this year and expect a strong showing at the Petit Le Mans".
Racing the Ferrari F430 GT2 #61 will be accomplished drivers Maurizio
Mediani, Marino Franchitti, and Antony Lazzaro. Ferrari not only hopes to
continue its winning streak, but to regain it's presence in the Petit Le
Mans.
Not only is Mediani the 2006 Sara GT Italian Gran Turismo Champ (GT2),
but he is familiar with success behind the wheel of Ferrari cars.
Marino Franchitti had success with the Ferrari 430 earlier this year
when he finished 3rd in the GT2 at the FIA GT.
Antony Lazzaro is no stranger to the Ferrari cars either. In 2003, he
made his debut in a Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race and he also
raced a Ferrari 360 in the 2003-2004 American Le Mans series.
