"We spend four months putting up millions of lights that transform our
50-acre park into a truly magical experience," says Brad Schroeder, director
of events and entertainment for Silver Dollar City. "And that's just the
backdrop for our million-dollar Dickens production and our Holiday Light
Parade." See http://www.silverdollarcity.com for details.
Every night at the family-friendly theme park begins with a traditional
lighting of a five-story Christmas tree that blazes in sync to holiday music
like "Carol of the Bells" and Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus." The Christmas
tree's 250,000 lights illuminate the Town Square, repeating its show every
15 minutes. Another nightly highlight is the food -- traditional turkey and
gravy with cran-apple raisin dressing or a prime rib buffet, gingerbread
cookies and apple dumplings -- all made fresh daily.
This annual celebration is considered one of the nation's most popular
holiday season events. Last year, USA Today ranked Silver Dollar City among
the top 10 places in the country to have a bright Christmas. Even the
buttoned-down Wall Street Journal got into the spirit when it reported last
December, "They started stringing the Christmas lights back in August and they
are magical."
Families flock to the Holiday Light Parade, led by Santa's animated sleigh
and followed by brilliantly lit floats. Inside the park's Opera House, "A
Dickens' Christmas Carol" features elaborate sets with revolving scenery and
stunning visual effects like flying spirits and vanishing ghosts. In a nearby
theater, the Living Nativity is recreated with actors and animals in an
inspired interpretation of the Christ child's birth.
One admission price covers all attractions, rides, performances and
unlimited viewing of more than four million lights and 1,000 decorated trees.
Also, there will be more than 50 artisans demonstrating their talents during
"An Old Time Christmas."
