Tetris(R) by Blue Lava Wireless and JAMDAT Bowling have gone platinum with
more than one million downloads, and Ms. PAC-MAN by Namco has gone gold with
more than 500,000 downloads.
"Sprint works closely with its gaming partners to offer a compelling list
of popular games that are fun, simple, usable and reliable for our customers,"
said Jason Ford, general manager - Games, Sprint. "We are pleased to
recognize Blue Lava Wireless, JAMDAT Mobile and Namco America for helping
drive the popularity of mobile gaming."
Game Ringers
Sprint also announced today that customers can personalize their phones
with 20 downloadable game ringers from Namco. The ringers capture such
instantly recognizable sounds as the "waka-waka" from PAC-MAN, the game-start
sound from Dig Dug, the theme song from Tekken 2, the fighter-captured sound
from Galaga and more. To access the game ringers from the Sprint PCS
Vision(SM) homepage, select Downloads/Games/Game Ringers.
Interoperable gaming communities
In a separate release, M7 Networks will announce that The Game Lobby from
Sprint will be interconnected with a similar game community it will host for
another U.S. carrier, creating the industry's first carrier-sponsored,
interoperable game community. This will enable gamers from both carriers to
share common leaderboards, maintain cross-carrier buddy lists, share member
profiles and have player-to-player messaging. Although the subscribers of
each carrier remain in their respective branded environment, the gamer is
afforded the richer environment of a combined member base.
Sprint recently received the 3G CDMA Industry Achievement Award for
Innovative Mobile Game Development for the launch of Game Lobby, the first,
carrier-based gaming community in the world.
The popularity of wireless games is exploding. IDC predicts the wireless-
games industry will be worth $1 billion in the United States within the next
three years.
"Industry trends show that more and more consumers want on-the-go
entertainment options available at their fingertips," said John Burris,
director - Wireless Data Services, Sprint. "Sprint continues to be a leader
in the mobile-gaming market by offering the most popular games and the latest
innovations that enhance the overall gaming experience."
Sprint leads the industry in wireless data adoption with more than 5.6
million customers subscribing to Sprint PCS Vision and taking advantage of
Sprint's wireless data offering, including ringers, screen savers, games, and
multimedia and messaging services such as SMS, IM, Picture Mail(SM) and Video
Mail. In August, Sprint announced ringers and music tones that achieved
platinum and gold status. Today Sprint adds platinum and gold games and, in a
separate announcement, gold screen savers -- Nickelodeon's SpongeBob
SquarePants and MAXIM Models.
