Third-Annual Desktop Linux Summit Expands to Include Mozilla and OpenOffice.org Focus

Top Open Source Innovators Gather for Three-Day Show; Open Source Applications
Foundation Chair Mitchell Kapor to Speak

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Now in its third year, the annual
Desktop Linux Summit has added an extra day, expanding its focus to include
discussions of open source leaders Mozilla and OpenOffice.org. A two-day
event in prior years, the Summit is now three days and will be held
February 9-11, 2005 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego.
For one admission fee, attendees will not only interact with open source
industry leaders and start-ups participating in the Summit, but will also
attend events to learn more about Mozilla, the Firefox Internet browser, and
OpenOffice.org, creator of the open-source office productivity suite. Lotus
1-2-3 designer and Open Source Applications Foundation Chair Mitchell Kapor is
slated to give the keynote address. More information is available at the
Summit's Web site, http://www.desktoplinuxsummit.org.
The famous Del Mar Fairgrounds will be the site of the event, with
exhibition hours from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on February 9 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on
February 10 and 11, 2005. For a $99 registration fee, attendees will have
access to all events and exhibition areas, plus receive continental breakfast
and lunch each day and a free T-shirt. For more details about the event or to
pre-register, visit http://www.desktoplinuxsummit.org.
The Desktop Linux Summit 2005 brings together industry leaders in both
desktop Linux and open source technology to share ideas about innovations,
marketing, and the future of these technologies. Well-established companies
and promising startups alike will host exhibits, panel discussions, hands-on
demonstrations, and extensive Q&A sessions to provide insight into open source
and desktop Linux applications. More information about sponsorship
opportunities is available at http://www.desktoplinuxsummit.org/sponsors. Agendas
for the event will be announced at a later date, but to suggest an idea or
speaker for the Summit, email ideas@desktoplinuxsummit.org.
Kapor, founder and Chair of the Open Source Applications Foundation and
Chair of The Mozilla Foundation, is scheduled to give the keynote speech at
the Summit. Kapor founded Lotus Development Corporation in 1982 and designed
Lotus 1-2-3, the "killer app" which made the PC ubiquitous in business.
Participation will be limited to 1,000 attendees and is available on a
first-come, first serve basis. The pre-registration price of $99 includes
admission to all three events, booth exhibit areas, and all speaking events,
as well as continental breakfast, lunches and a T-shirt. Interested attendees
will want to register early at http://www.desktoplinuxsummit.org/attendees. After
January 7, the registration price increases to $175.
Exhibitors interested in reaching the active open source community should
visit http://www.desktoplinuxsummit.org/sponsors for information. Each exhibitor fee
includes a booth with backdrop, marketing opportunities, and access to all
Desktop Linux Summit events. Last year's exhibitor list included Sun, Novell,
Redhat, AMD, and many more. This year's broadened schedule will cover
cross-platform Mozilla and OpenOffice.org technologies and will offer an ideal
audience to reach key decision makers.
