CHICAGO, Dec. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- As Chicago continues its full-court
press to host the 2016 Summer Olympics, the Windy City will play host to
the largest Table Tennis event in the United States on Saturday, December
29th -- Killerspin's Spinvitational Table Tennis Championships. The
Spinvitational will take place in the Grand Concourse at McCormick Place.
Session 1 - 9:45am until 12:30pm, Session 2 - 1:30pm - 3:30pm, Session 3 -
5:00pm - 8:00pm.
One of the featured players at the Spinvitational will be BiBa, the
Chicago-based Table Tennis star sponsored by Killerspin. In addition to
being hot on the court due to her outstanding table tennis abilities, BiBa
has been just as hot off court, with a cameo in this fall's Hollywood
blockbuster 'Balls of Fury' with George Lopez and Christopher Walken, as
well as in the Indie film 'Ping Pong Playa' by Oscar-winning director
Jessica Yu, and a reality series on Bravo TV called 'Welcome to the
Parker'. She was also featured in Rolling Stone magazine as one of the
nation's "hot" athletes.
The Spinvitational is part of Mayor Daley's Annual Sports Festival at
McCormick Place on Saturday, December 29. More than 10,000 spectators are
expected to watch a dozen featured table tennis players including Olympic
Silver Medalists Ilija Lupulesku and Zoran Primorac, as well as 2-time
Olympian and European, Chinese Junior Champion Xu Ruifeng and U.S. Open
Champion Alexandar Karakasevic.
Lupulesku and Hazinski, both from Chicago, are also competing this
Saturday and both were members of the 2004 U.S. Olympic table tennis team
and both are 2008 Olympic hopefuls. Lupulesku and Hazinski won the U.S.
National Table Tennis Championships earlier this month in Men's Doubles and
met each other in the finals of Men's singles. Lupulesku defeated Hazinski
in the finals to become the U.S. National Champion for the fourth time.
The Spinvitational will also feature the Paralympics Table Tennis
Championships and recognition of the momentous 35th Anniversary of the
historical Ping Pong Diplomacy between the United States and China during
President Nixon's administration.
"This event will feature the top international talent in the sport and
will be important to Chicago as we continue to bring top sporting events to
show we are ready for the 2016 Olympics," said Robert Blackwell Jr.,
President and Founder of Killerspin. "BiBa has become an international
celebrity and the Spinvitational should further that."
