Environmental Engineering Day 2007 Proclaimed in Miami-Dade County
MIAMI, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Wednesday, February 21, 2007,
will be proclaimed Environmental Engineering Day in Miami-Dade County by
Mayor Carlos Alvarez. This event is being sponsored by Florida
International University's College of Engineering and Computing.
An afternoon of events is scheduled including, distinguished speaker
Dr. Patrick L. Brezonik, Program Director, Environmental Engineering
National Science Foundation, who will address the group following the
Mayoral Proclamation.
This event is being held during National Engineering Week, which ends
with the college's 6th annual Engineering Gala. This is the largest event
of its kind in South Florida. As many as 800-1000 Miami-Dade and Broward
public school students, from elementary through community college, will
descend upon the Engineering Center for a day-long, interactive
demonstration of engineering.
This is the one day of the year when research and learning labs at the
Engineering Center open their doors to anyone other than their own faculty
and students. Visitors will be introduced to various and distinct fields
within engineering through a series of hands-on displays such as robotics
and model bridges. One of the highlights is a remote control plane that has
been equipped with a live video feed, providing an aerial perspective of
the event as it happens. The activities are designed to promote interest in
math, science and engineering.
