Over Air America Radio Freethought Radio Goes National!
MADISON, Wis., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "Hello all you godless
infidels, out-of-the-closet atheists and happy heathens!"
That line will greet listeners Saturday to the nation's first-ever
national broadcast of a Freethought Radio program, when the Freedom From
Religion Foundation's weekly show "from the secular point of view" out of
Madison, Wis., will broadcast over Air America Radio for the first time.
The first guest on Freethought Radio's national debut Sat., Oct. 6 will
be Christopher Hitchens, author of the bestselling book, God Is Not Great:
How Religion Poisons Everything.
The hour-long program, hosted by Foundation co-presidents Dan Barker
and Annie Laurie Gaylor, has been airing on Air America's Madison affiliate
since April 2006 and podcasting from ffrf.org/radio/.
"This is radio for the rest of us," says Dan, who bills himself on the
show as "your friendly neighborhood atheist."
"Freethought Radio offers irreverent views, news, music and
interviews," adds Annie Laurie. The show includes a regular segment known
as "Theocracy Alert," interviews and music.
Freethought Radio will broadcast Saturdays over WWRL 1600 AM New York
City, and over XM Satellite, Channel 167 from 7-8 p.m. Eastern.
The growing list of other affiliates where Freethought Radio can be
heard on Saturdays (1-2 p.m. Eastern) includes: Ann Arbor, Austin,
Charlottesville, Va., Chicago, Eugene/Springfield, Ore.,
Huntington/Ashland, W. Va./Ky., Ithaca, Palm Springs, St. Louis, Mo., Reno,
Sheridan, Wy., Taos, and Victory Valley, Calif.
Freethought Radio will continue to broadcast from 11 a.m. - noon
Central over Madison's Progressive Talk The Mic 92.1, produced by Brian
Turany, the Mic program director.
"You can turn on the radio or TV 24/7 to be preached at. This is one
hour a week of the public airwaves that offers an alternative," Annie
Laurie said.
Freethought Radio has interviewed a distinguished roster of authors and
activists, including Ron Reagan, Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Natalie
Angier, Katha Pollitt, Eleanor Smeal, and Betty Rollin. Previous programs
