     Stater Bros. Campaigns Have Raised Over $873,033 in Last Four Years

    COLTON, Calif., Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Stater Bros. Markets is pleased to
announce that its customers and employees have raised $240,674 to benefit the
American Heart Association.  During the month of May 2005, when we also honor
all mothers, Stater Bros. partnered with the American Heart Association in a
fund raising campaign to draw attention to the high number of women affected
by heart disease.  All 161 Stater Bros. Supermarkets participated in the
"Taking Steps against Heart Disease and Stroke" campaign to raise money for
the American Heart Association.

    * The press and the public are invited to a special check presentation
      featuring 11-year-old open-heart surgery survivor Victoria Hecht, who is
      the American Heart Association's Ambassador for the Inland Empire.
    * The $240,674 check will be presented to Dr. Vilma Torres, President of
      the Inland Empire American Heart Association Board of Directors.
    * The check presentation will take place at the Stater Bros. Supermarket
      located at 1045 South Bloomington Avenue in Bloomington, California.
      The Bloomington Stater Bros. Supermarket collected the most money in
      this fund raising drive.
